Mascots
A potential research question used prior to writing this article could have been what are misconceptions and stereotypes about Native Americans? From here the author could have found information on Native American mascots in sports and which ones are correct depictions of Native Americans and which ones are not. The point of this article is to analyze the Seminole mascot of Florida State University and how correctly it depicts Seminole Indians, and the relationship the school shares with the Seminoles. The author's research contributes very well to the ethos of the paper because he goes and gets the opinions of Seminole Indians and people at the University, which are probably the opinions that matter the most. Using primary sources, when doing a research paper, are almost always the best. His research contributes to his purpose in that it gives him the necessary information to evaluate what he is trying to evaluate; he is trying to evaluate FSU's relationship with the Seminoles and his research was conducted by talking to the Seminoles and FSU.

Is Google Making Us Stupid?
I do not believe that the Internet is making us more stupid, I believe it is only making us different. It is in human nature to fear change. "The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." This was also said by Socrates. So my point is that I feel the author is lacking faith in humanity and he is just from a different generation and he isn't embracing the new culture, which is very common throughout history, demonstrated by this Socrates quote. I also felt that his writing was biased or a source he used was. He cites a study saying that the people browse the Internet jumping from article to article merely skimming and not actually reading. The study then says that people sometimes would save a reading but there is no evidence that they actually went back to read it. But there is also no evidence that they didn't; he pitches this to seem like they did not read it, but my guess is that if they saved it, they read it. I mean when I save an article it is so I can go back and read it. Another reason why I disagree with the author is that I do not feel the inability to immerse myself in readings, yes there are times when when I have to force myself to stay focused on the reading but that is just because it is boring and does not interest me. But I must acknowledge maybe I do not know what it feels like to be in a deep read since I am from a newer generation. So to conclude, I do believe that the way we think is changing and different, but that it is not for the worse. I would suggest to the author of this article to go check out TED.com; we still have plenty of very deep thinkers.

The Future
1) I believe that Bill's primary concern in this article is that we are progressing so fast technologically and we are not even considering the repercussions of our actions. He is afraid that we a gradually becoming so comfortable with handing responsibility and power over to robotics and computers that we aren't going to realize when we have given too much. I believe his fear to be pessimistic because I don't think he has a enough faith in society but I would not say he is being completely unrealistic.
2) To set up his argument he utilizes several good techniques. He first proves why his opinion matters on this and gives his credentials, proving that he is technologically savvy and knows what he is talking about. He also gives the credentials of other note-worthy persons in his field who share similar opinions. He also appeals to our emotions when he shares an excerpt of a future in which humans are reduced to the status of domesticated animals. I found this technique to be the most effective because I think one of the best ways to get people to listen is to scare them. He also gives example of how we are rapidly advancing and how it is not always good, such as with antibiotics and creating drug resistant strains of diseases, which is another good method which directly proves his point.
3)I believe that this is still a relevant issue but not to the degree that Bill believes. I do not believe we will ever live a in a world like that of the "Matrix" but I do believe that we will create robots and computers that will replace the jobs of many humans and cause many problems. I feel that his view lacks a faith in society and is overly pessimistic. I think too many issues will arise from machines replacing humans before we ever reach the point he thinks we will. But I must acknowledge that he does know more than me in this field and I do feel like every month we have a newer, smaller, faster iPod or computer coming out. Technology is increasing exponentially so I guess we will have to wait and see what the future holds in store for us.

Here the issue is a teacher who is very outspoken and encouraged her students to do something that would endanger themselves returned to class today. She was able to return because of the protection of her union. This is important because I am sure teach unions will be a very controversial topic soon with all the budget cuts going on in different states.

The problem here is a much more serious one. On Indian reservations suicide in running rampant amongst teenagers. This is because of the poor economic conditions on the reservations, unemployment is very high and substance abuse is growing. This is important just because it is just not good to have people committing suicide and it needs to stop.

The problem in this news is how the poorer schools of PA will be severely hurt if the new budget plan in PA is approved. It will create a hug educational gap in PA. This is important because I live in Pennsylvania and could feel this firsthand.
http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=8021474
The problem in this article is that the disaster in Japan is going to effect the US. We get a lot of products and parts, especially electronics, from Japan and with this recent disaster they are unable to produce some of these things. One example of this is the new iPad, it is only made in Japan. This is important to me because I do buy electronics and may have to pay more for them now.
